Surgeon Information

Drs. John Fifer, David Heligman, Ed Gomez, and George Markovich are board-certified orthopaedic surgeons by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. They are medical staff members at Lee Memorial Hospital, Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center, and Gulf Coast Hospital. Drs. Fifer, Heligman, Gomez, and Markovich are active in local sporting groups, including little league, hockey, football and soccer. Participating in local youth activities is one way they contribute to the community’s well-being and overall good health.

Dr. Richard Hood is a board-certified physician in Pain Management by the American Academy of Pain Management and a qualified Anesthesiologist, certified by the American Board of Anesthesia. Dr. Hood is an affiliate staff member at Lee Memorial Hospital. He is an excellent addition to the services already provided to our patients at the Institute for Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine.

Dr. Robert Andrew Follweiler is the newest addition to our group. Dr. Follweiler is a board eligible, fellowship trained Orthopaedic Surgeon. He was fellowship trained in Richmond Virginia for arthroscopy and sports medicine. Dr. Follweiler will do surgery at Gulf Coast Hospital, Lee Memorial Hospital and Southwest Regional Medical Center. He will practice at both our Estero and Ft. Myers locations and is open for new patients immediately.

Our doctors also are trained in sports medicine. This advanced training enables them to provide many different medical treatments that help ease sports-related pain and injuries while speeding recovery.
